Mutaka: son of our sun

YOU MIGHT WANT TO READ THIS.

I don't know if many of you know, but the moon is really an egg.

The sun laid the "moon" (as we call it) many many years ago. And like all eggs, it will eventually hatch...and Mutaka will be born. Unfortunetely for us, Mutaka will feed our planet to his mother. The sun will then regain all her precious energy that we've taken over the years.

(Not a real photograph. Artist's interpretation only.)

On the last solar eclipse the hubble space telescope sited a faint red form on the face of the moon. That was the fetus of Mutaka curled up...ready to be born.

I say we destroy the moon now before it's too late.

Another rat

Here's another rat pic. He's more "Lane Smithy". I think I like that direction more. I'm gonna try some more expressive faces and see if i can push the graphic quality.

Mr. Grouse concepts

These are some concepts I've been been doing for a
character i've had in my head for a long time.

Here's some people I drew at the train station.

Monday, December 31, 2007

I vowed to update my blog before the new year. So here i am at 6:00 on December 31 updating my blog.

I finally had some colorful things to post. the blog was looking a little depressing with all the sketchy gray stuff.

I started painting this several months ago and then stopped for some reason. But here's (what i think) is the finished version

Here's the movie poster for Daniel Brown.

These are a few sketches i made downtown. I found it slightly awkward drawing random people. Especially when they saw me sitting under a tree sketching them. But it was worthwhile. There's definitely an artform to sketching someone as they move by so quickly.

So this and the following several images are from my sketchbook. Don't ask me what they are cause i don't know.

These are just some thumbnails from my sketchbook.

It's not that i love baseball that much; but i think as an animator i'm drawn to the "kineticness" of a baseball player's movement.

I haven't had much training in graphic arts. but this is a job i'm trying to do for a friend. My big concern now is trying to print the thing out. It's a 17 x 20 inch image and one estimate i got for a print was 90 bucks!

I haven't done much in the way of painting in photoshop. so this was just a little experiment. But after doing it i decided to purchase a wacom tablet. Painting with a mouse is horribly unnatural.

This is a work in progress.

It's my attempt at caricaturing my friend recording himself singing.

Daniel Brown

Some more Daniel Brown

Once again, this isn't my initial design. But he's a fun character to play around with.

I meant to give him more of a flat graphic look. But he turned out to be a hybrid of graphic and three dimensional design. It almost makes it a little creepier.

It's surprising how a suddle difference in proportion can impact a drawing so much. When i compared these drawings I prefered the character on the right.
His head is slightly bigger and his legs a bit fatter and shorter. It's suddle, but I think it makes a difference.

This guy always looks best when he's mad for some reason.
i'm really having fun with his face though. I like the idea of stretching and pulling his entire head. And showing as much of his inner mouth as i can possibly show.

This is my first time writing a blog ever. I wasn't sure what to write or show or anything really. So I just put together a mess of stuff I've been doing lately (which I'm sure is terribly interesting).
these are some character concepts. I didn't come up with this guy's design, but i've just been playing with his shapes and poses. I've been looking
at a lot of Lane Smith's work for inspiration.
just some more concept sketches.
